šŸ˜· Hirji wants to cut short ‘holiday from masking’

Looks like the “holiday from masking” is being cut short — or at least “experts” are calling for a return to masking, including Niagara Region (Acting) Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. M. Mustfa Hirji.

Hirji wrote on Twitter:

“If we want to get past the disruptions of this pandemic, it is time we get serious with long-term sustainable measures to bring it to heel” on a retweet of a Globe and Mail story that claims “experts call for a return to masking”.

Mandates “normalize the behavior”

Hirji also retweeted a statement that claimed:

“Masks prevent transmission of many other respiratory viruses besides SARS-CoV-2. They are an effective and inexpensive way to keep everyone healthier. Mandates (like laws for seat belts and no smoking in indoor public spaces) normalize the behaviour”, wrote Jeff Kwong on Twitter.

Hirji has prior argued for a general normalization of public mask wearing, and has also gone so far as to suggest “shifting the calendar” during the holidays to limit gatherings at Christmas time.
