šŸ“…DEI ratification pushed back to September

A June press release claimed the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) 2023-2027 Action Plan would be coming to Regional Council in July, but the Niagara Region clerk has provided information that the plan will now be first presented to the Corporate Services Committee on September 14 and will be in council for final ratification on September 22.

This information was provided to this author because of a pending delegation on the topic. There has not yet been any public disclosure on the rescheduling of the plan.

No public explanation of the change in schedule has been made however, the June 28 DEI Advisory Committee did not reach quorum and does not have another scheduled meeting until August 30, 2022. This was confirmed in a subsequent email from the clerk as the reason for the change of schedule.

“At the time of the press release, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Plan was tracking for the July Council meeting with the intent that the Regionā€™s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee was to endorse the action plan at their June 28 meeting. Unfortunately that meeting did not have quorum and the next meeting of the Committee is scheduled for August 30.”
